Game 1: Jar Jars vs. R2D2s
This game was little more than “The Gary Burdge Show” as Burdge actually showed up to a game. Putting the Bounty Hunters on his back, he racked up goals and assists like they were going out of style. Evan Cumpston of the Jar Jars did all he could to keep his team in the game, but sub and best friend Phil Heichel didn’t carry his wegiht. Cumpston registered 5 goals, but that was nearly all the offense the Jar Jars mustered.
At the other end, the R2D2s were getting scoring up and down their lineup. Even 4th line defenseman Dan Kuntzleman got in on the act netting 4 of his own. “I just shoot and they go in,” Kuntzleman was saying. “Wild.”
The R2s had a comfy 9-3 lead heading into the last 5 minutes before Cumpston scored from behind his own net. That started the comeback with two more quick goals, but the 6-goal deficit was too much to overcome in 3 minutes. The R2s scored number 10 with 3 seconds remaining to seal this one 10-6.
Game 2: Tusken Raiders vs. Bounty Hunters
The Tusken Raiders got word that first-round pick superstart goalie Felipe Rodriguez would miss this game with little time to find a replacement. Tragedy struck again when Abdiel Amador messaged Raiders’ captain Mike Mallery an hour before the game that he was going to be absent due to stress and butterflies. Whatever that means.
At the other end, the Bounty Hunters has already secured the services of Marc Redinger to fill in for Brian van Vlymen who was away at a Star Trek convention donning his best set of Spock ears.
The Raiders were all out of sorts as the Hunters jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead leaving the Raiders a little shell-shocked. A brilliant solitary effort from emerging star forward Jacob Hernandez got the Raiders into the game in the waning moments of the first. “I’m calling my shot,” clammored Hernandez. “I’m going for 3. Phil (Heichel), get out of my way.”
The second was a much closer game as the Raiders finally figured out their lines. A lot of back and forth as the teams continued to trade goals. The back breaking moment for the Raiders came when, after a goal of their own, a shot hit the Raiders’ goalie and flipped straight up. It landed right between his legs as he kept spinning in circles looking for it. Hunters’ captain Nicholas McMahon never had an easier goal.
The Hunters held on to that quick 4-goal start to take this game 10-6.
