09/01/19 – Week 5 Preview

Week 5 is here meaning we are nearing the end of the season. There’s still plenty of hockey to be played and some jockeying for positions as we move forward.

Game 1 pits Los Chupacabras against the Demogorgons. The Chupas have something to prove coming off their first win and having fallen to the Gorgons 7-1 back in week 2.

The Chupas are looking to build off their gritty overtime victory over the Krakens last week. To pull that off, they are going to have to overcome a tough Demogorgon team, but with their newfound vigor and moxie, they may be able to pull it off.

The Gorgons are looking to get back into the win column after they dropped a hard-fought defensive game against the Unicorns. They are going to have to reach deep into their bag of subs as half the team will be out with a bad case of mono (also known as the kissing disease).

Players to Watch

Los Chupacabras got a needed boost in the form of Chris Read. His hatty last week was the difference in the game. He’ll need to bring that same game this week to help push the Chupas past the Gorgons.

For the Demogorgons, forward James Kopalchick will be looking to find his name on the scoresheet as he was caught wondering where his assist went from a previous game. Look for him to start crowding the net and creating havoc in front of Chupas goalie Tony Smith.

The second game sees the Krakens try their hand at the Unicorns. The Unicorns are coming off a tough victory against the Gorgons while the Krakens fell to the Chupas in overtime. The Krakens will be looking for a stronger offensive output this game as they picked up a single goal against the Unicorns back in week 2 in a 7-1 loss.

The Krakens are coming into this week on a 3-game winless streak, and they would love to snap that over with a victory over the Unicorns. Their defensive game has been great all season, but they need to show up on offense. If they can put together a strong offensive game, they may just topple the ‘Corns.

The Unicorns were caught flat-footed last week. If not for the efforts of Marc Redinger, the Unicorns could have lost that tight game. They need to find their team game again if they want to continue their run.

Players to Watch

Chris Jimenez should be back in the Krakens’ lineup, and being well rested, he should be tearing it up. He’s due for a strong offensive game, and there’s no better time than now to display that.

The Unicorns will be looking to Brian van Vlymen to get back on the board. Having not scored in the last game and being unsure if the scorekeeper got his lone assist (it was a secondary, and those are super rare), Brian resorted to tripping an opposing player just to make sure he was on the scoresheet.
