#4 (1-5-0)

It may be a rematch of last week, but it may also be a completely different Chupacabras team that shows up. Missing their defensive core last didn’t do the Chupas any favors as the Unicorns ran roughshod over them.

The Unicorns have to play the same way they have all season. If the entire Chupas team shows up, this will not be the same game as it was last week, and the Unicorns know it.

Los Chupacabras struggled all season, but that may be just what they need. Going into the playoffs in last place, there is no pressure on this team to perform. Sometimes, that makes everything just click into place. Regardless, this team will need to be stingy on defense and capitilize on their offensive chances if they hope to move on.

Players to Watch

The unsung hero of the Unicorns has been goalie Taylor Newton. His strong play all season has given the team the confidence to take chances knowing that he could take care of their mistakes. Look for Taylor to continue his strong play and carry his team on to the next round.

The Chupas need both John Smith and Chris Read to show up. This team is completely different with both of them out there. If they are both present to start the game, look for them to make an impact early.

#3 (1-4-1)

These two team met last week, and though the Krakens fell, the game was much closer than it looked. Add in Wayne Garrick for the Krakens and Matt Blackburn for the Demogorgons and this game can go either way.

The Demogorgons aren’t a high-scoring team. They rely on solid defense paired with solid goal tending. Their defense is going to need to be stifling again to allow their offense the chance to take some chances and jump out to an early lead.

The Krakens haven’t found success since week 1. This would be a great time to turn that fortune around. Playing deep in the offensive zone and taking the burden off of goalie Chad Miller will do wonders for this team. They don’t have to score on every shift, but they have the skill and speed to spend large swaths of time attacking. Their ability to do just that may be the determining factor in this game.

Players to Watch

The Demogorgons have had success much of the season with the tandem of Marley Ros and James Neeay. If these two can continue to connect, the Gorgons should be able to move on to next week.

The Krakens finally saw David Hastings unleash himself last week. Erupting for all 3 of the Krakens’ goals last week, he should look to continue that style of play. He could carry this team on his back into the next round.
