Game 1 – Stay Pufts (1) vs Ghoulies (4)
This game had trouble written all over it for the Ghoulies, and the Stay Pufts took advantage. The Ghoulies were far outmatched as their top two scorers weren’t available, and it showed. The SPs ran out to a 5-goal lead after the first, and the depleted Ghoulies were doing their best just to hang in.
It didn’t last long as Brian “Garbage Time” van Vlymen showed up again once the game was out of hand to put his team up by 7 or 8 or 9 or whatever… we stopped counting.
Evan Cumpston finally showed up for the Ghoulies, but his presence was too little too late. He did, however, help create some havoc and helped get the Ghoulies on the board. Actually, it was SPs goalie, Felipe “I’m playing the puck in the corner because this game has been boring for me” Rodriguez, who helped get the Ghoulies on the board. A little pressure and a minor blunder in the corner by Felipe allowed the puck to squirt out right down the middle to a wide open Ghoulies captain Mike Mallery. He wasted no time snapping that shot off and ending the shut-out bid. It’s worth mentioning that the shot was off the post and in despite having the entire 4×6 to shoot at.
The game eventually ended by a final of 12-3 or something like that.
Game 2 – Body Snatchers (2) vs Aliens (3)
As predicted, this game was a bit of a snore. With a potential second game looming on the horizon for both teams, neither team wanted to open it up and pressure. The first period saw some passing, a few shots registered, and a puck out of play. It ended 0-0.
The second period started off with a bang, though, as Gary “I’m keeping my Movember mustache” Bardge opened the scoring early. From there, the game picked up and the teams traded handfuls of goals.
Eventually, the depleted bench of the Body Snatchers caught up to them despite Chad “I sit at green lights for 20 seconds before hitting the gas” Miller playing well above his pay grade. The Aliens would take the lead late and never look back even though the BSers were always a goal or two away from tying it up.
This game went to the Aliens.
Championship Game – Stay Pufts (1) vs Aliens (3)
On paper, the Stay Pufts should have walked away with this game. The Aliens, though, had other plans.
The Aliens would open the scoring early, and they were looking good up against the powerhouse Stay Pufts. The Stay Pufts were having a difficult time figuring out Aliens goalie Taylor “nothing witty to put here” Newton. They were peppering him from all angles and the only the odd puck eluded him.
Exhaustion wold eventually catch up to the Aliens as midway through the second, the SPs finally broke through and grabbed their first lead of the game on David “Pen15” Penn picked up his 4th goal of the game. Add one more, and the SPs grabbed the victory in a relatively thrilling 6-4 game.
