It’s time! The SARHL Winter Season 2020 is upon us. Running 9 weeks plus 1 night of playoffs for bragging rights and glory, this season promises more fizzle, pop, and pizzazz!
Rule Changes
- Gameplay will be 3v3.
- Game time remains two 20-minute halves.
- Games will start on time. If teams are not ready, clock will run until teams are set.
- Between period breaks are limited to 2 minutes. Timeouts are limited to 1 minute.
- Goalie timeouts are no longer available (unless equipment malfunction)
- The scorekeeper is an official and can make a call when requested by on-ice officials.
- Single penalties will be played 3v2. Concurrent penalties will add fourth skater to power play team (4v2). If the first penalty expires, game will continue as 4v3 until the next whistle which will result in the game reverting to 3v2. If all penalties expire before a whistle, game will continue as 4v4 when players rejoin the game until a stoppage of play. Play will resume reverted back to 3v3.
- In the event of a tie at the end of regulation, play will resume as 2v2 for 3 minutes. Penalties will add players to the power play team rather than reduce below 2 skaters. Similar rules for penalties will be as listed above.
- Penalties in overtime are 1 minute in length. If a penalty carries over from the 3rd period, the time to serve in overtime is either the remaining time or 1 minute, whichever is shorter.
- If there is no winner at the end of overtime, we will go to a quick shootout.
- Shootout is 3 rounds then single rounds if no winner is declared
- Bench to the left of the scorekeeper shoots first
- Skater can not touch the puck until the ref is in position at the goal line and blows the whistle. First infraction for the team will result in a redo. Second infraction for the team forfeits that shot.
- No skater can take a sescond penalty shot until all skaters from his team have taken a shot. Same goes for third or fourth shots if it ever gets that far.
- In the theme of keeping things rolling, shootout must begin as quickly as possible. At the end of overtime, every skater must leave the rink and the first shooter needs to get to center as quickly as possible. We will allow a 1-minute break to get shootout lineups in order.
Some of the rules have changed, so make sure you read up and recognize the changes.
On to the fun part – here’s the new teams.

Bounty Hunters
Color – Green
Captain – Nicholas McMahon
Skaters – Robert Robles, Chris Read, Greg Artzberger, Ryan Rose, Brian van Vlymen
Goalie – Taylor Newton
Captain McMahon’s man-crush on goalie Taylor Newton continues much to the delight of Newton. This team will either run up the score or the PIMs. It can go either way.

Jar Jars
Color – Red
Captain – David “DBran” Penn
Skaters – Preston Kinney, Evan Cumpston, Brad Repka, Dane Oritz, Brian Gray
Goalie – Tony Smith
Rookie captain Penn is making the smart play by taking the first two weeks off. He’ll be depending on Evan Cumpston to show up and a 6″ sub to take over his duties while he’s away.

R2D2s
Color – White
Captain – Andrew Minerd
Skaters – David Lopez, Chris Jimenez, Dan Ryan, Corey Huffman, Gary Burdge
Goalie – Chad Miller
R2s captain Minerd will be leaning on David Lopez’s championship pedigree to bring home a win this season. Lopez’s “deer in the headlights” look said it all.

Tusken Raiders
Color – Yellow
Captain – Mike Mallery
Skaters – Colin Lang, Phil Heichel, David Foss, Abdiel Amador, Jacob Hernandez, Augustus Vargas (team’s emotional support)
Goalie – Felipe Rodriguez
The Tusken Raiders will at least be known as the oldest team in the league. That’s something.
