Game 1: Tacos vs Dignowity – Another pristine weather night at the beautiful Fairchild Park greeted the SARHL for Week 4 games. After the first cycle (all teams have played 1 double header), this starts the second cycle before playoffs where every team will play another double header. After 4 games a piece, the league standings were all locked up with each team winning two and losing two.
The first game of the night featured Dignowity versus the Tacos, the week one rematch that Dignowity has had circled on the calendar. Both Burdge and Iacarella were in attendance for Dignowity this week and boy did that make a difference. The first shift of the game saw Dignowity open a 3-0 lead scoring on every shot taken on goals from Iacarella and Burdge.
From there the game would be more lopsided than a Weather balloon versus a couple F-16 Fighter Jets. The Dignowity players would tally on 5 more goals in the second period to extend the lead to 8-0.
The third period was no different as Dignowity added one more to push the score up to 9-0. Keeper Taylor Newton was in between the pipes and put on a Goaltending clinic turning away all 20+ shots taken by the offense of the Tacos. Even with Van Vlyman making his first appearance of the season for the Tacos, the offense of BVV-Penn-Jimenez found no answers to the Welshmans effort. It was not until 1 minute left to play that Doho Burdge was heard saying “shutout” as the Taco’s sniper, Jake Hernadez, walked in to break the ice for the Tacos and make the game 9-1.
Game 2: Tacos vs El Pollo – The Tacos would be on the double header and after an early iguanas practice, were running low on gas in the tank. Luckily, 3 of their teammates showed up for this game but not the first one to give some added support. Skating 7 a team, the first period would see a see-saw of a match as the two teams traded goals to end the first at 3-3.
In the second period, Minerd and Dreary would connect on a tictactoe passing play ending with a backhand goal to open up the game 4-3, El Pollo. Late in the second period, Brian Van Vlyman finally wiped away his “my 49ers are out of the playoffs” tears and found the back of the net to tie the game. Shortly after, Van Vlyman found Vargas on the backdoor for an easy tap in goal that gave the Tacos their first lead of the game.
El Pollo made a third period push after substitute and airplane captain Chuck Gawell would put a puck past the Taco’s goaltender, Ricky. The period would progress at 5-4 with the Tacos leading until Brian Van Vlyman added two more alongside one from Jimenez to give the Tacos the 8-4 win.
