Championship Night

Semi Finals: #2 Tacos vs #3 El Pollo
Fairchild Park, Sunday 3/12: The SARHL Playoffs would start with the 2 verses 3 matchup between the Tacos and El Pollo. With a chance to move on to the SARHL Winter Finals on the line, this game was a battle. The first period saw both teams test the keepers, Newton for El Pollo and Ricky for Tacos, with only one shot making it through coming from El Pollo. The second period remained tilted towards the chicken as they added goals 2 and 3 early on. The Tacos would answer back with two goals of their own to send the game into the third period, 3-2 El Pollo lead.
An early Tacos goal would equalize the game going into the final 10 minutes of the semi final match up. El Pollo would score with 5 minutes remaining to take a 4-3 lead over the Tacos. After taking their time out and pulling the keeper, the Tacos would be unable to add any goals and conceded 2 empty netters. El Pollo would secure the semifinal victory 6-3 and move on to play Dignowity for the SARHL Cup.
Finals: #1 Dignowity vs #3 El Pollo

Fairchild Park, Sunday 3/12: The SARHL Championship game featured the number one seeded team, Dignowity, led by captain Gary Burdge and the recent semi-final winners, El Pollo, led by captain Andrew Minerd. Keepers in net would be Newton for El Pollo and Ricky for Dignowity. The match was refereed by Brian Van vlyman, USA-Hockey Level 2 Official Certified.
Coming off the semifinal victory, would the rush of victory be enough to power El Pollo’s legs for the upcoming double header game? or would the earned bye week of Dignowity prove to be a vital impact to the nights game?
The first period saw El Pollo jump out to a hot start, carrying over a fast rate of play from the third period that just sent them to the finals. Passes were moving tape to tape and El Pollo started off the game with goals from Minerd and Dreary to extend an early 2-0 lead over Dignowity. As the seconds were winding down in the first, Dignowity found an odd man rush led to a backdoor goal going in just seconds after the buzzer rang keeping the game at the 2-0 El Pollo lead.
What appeared to be a crushing blow, a late goal waved off for Dignowity, would prove only to fuel the boys up during the intermission. Captain Burdge would tally 2 goals to start the period an even the score at 2 each. Shortly after, Jason Evans would find the back of the net to give Dignowity the led for the first time of the game. Just as the momentum started to flow for the meats, the train would derail ohio style with back to back tripping penalties. El Pollo was unable to capitalize on either powerplay and the game would remain 3-2 Dignowity lead at the end of 2.
In the final period, the scales started to tilt more towards Dignowity as Jaiden Hernandez added another goal, extending the Meat’s lead to 2. Once again, Dignowity would commit a tripping penalty and allow the flower of hope to grow for El Pollo. The penalty would expire and the teams would battle 4 on 4 again in the third. With just 6 minutes to play, Captain Burdge would find the net again for Dignowity opening up a 5-2 game. The final push from El Pollo added 1 more tally to the board but would stop there and as time expired, the game would end 5-3 Dignowity.
Congratulations to the champions of the SARHL Winter ’23 Season, Dignowity Meats.

The winner of the 7pm game will move on to the night’s Championship game at 8pm where the team of Dignowity awaits. The top seeded squad, Dignowity, finished the season with a 4 game winning streak to secure the bye to the finals. See ya Sunday!
Week 8 Recap

Week 8 Game 1: El Pollo vs Tacos – The final week of the regular season featured an El Pollo double header that kicked off with the Tacos. The first period saw a slow start as the teams traded just a goal each to notch the board at 1-1 being scored by Hernandez, Tacos, and Dreary, El Pollo. The second period continued the see-saw match as the game moved on to ties at 2, 3 and 4 goals. The third period proved to be an absolute battle with the game locked at 4-4, after the keepers turned away all shots the game would end tied. The first shootout of the season would be required to break the tie. Just like the third period, the shootout saw the goalies rise to the occasion stopping the first 2 rounds of attempts, the teams would trade goals on the third attempt and extra rounds were required. After another 3 rounds of scoreless activity, RONNY BOY dropped the keeper with a fake forehand before sliding a backhand under the tendy’s reaching arm for the game winner.
Week 8 Game 2: El Pollo vs Dignowity – The final game of the Winter ’23 Season would be between El Pollo and Dignowity. Coming off the double header, El Pollo had high spirits from the recent shootout victory. Much like the first game, the first period opened up with back and forth goals to end the period at 2-2. In the second period, the fresh legs of Dignowity and a mid-season player acquisition gave them an extra push to outscore their opponents by 3, extending the led to 5-2. In the third period, El Pollo would creep back into play capitalizing on a couple fast breaks to close the gap to 6-5. El Pollo would have man advantage chances on a late powerplay and again with the keeper pulled, but came up short attempting an equalizer. Dignowity would hold on to win and secure the first seed in the playoffs.

This week will feature Dignowity on the double header facing off against El Pollo in the early game and the Tacos in the late game. Hockey 4 Hearts
Kyle, Texas – Ash Pavilion: This last Saturday (2/11) the Iguanas program competed in the Hockey4Hearts tournament with two teams attending the event. The Iguanas Silver and Bronze teams played 10 games combined across round robin, playoffs and championships. Bronze iguanas consisted of Orrin, D-Lo, Augie, Travis, Greg, Ron, Jaiden, Bellow, and Taylor; the Silver lineup was Doho Burdge, Van Vlyman, Andy, Penn, JR, Ray and Orrin. Our fearless Goaltender Ricky Bobby held it down for both Iguana teams between the pipes and completed the first ever 8-consecutive-game-back-to-back performance in Iguana history. After round robin play, the Silver and Bronze Iguana teams found themselves in semi-final matchups for chances at the Kyle H4H championships. In Bronze, goals from Orin and Jaiden lifted them to the bronze finals while the Silver team required a shootout that saw Ricky save 4 of 5 shots and JR with 2 shootout goals to send silver to the finals. At the end of the day, both Iguana teams fell just short in their respective championship games falling 2-0 to the Labeda Chucacabras in silver and 2-1 against the Hurricranes in Bronze (decided by shootout). Overall an awesome day and great time playing hockey up in Kyle, thank you for all that attended. Iguana events in the upcoming month consist of Houston area tournaments, contact Gary for more information.
