Week 6 Preview
As we head into Week 6, the Tarantulas are riding a wave of momentum after last week’s win over the Stray Cats. They’ll be hosting a doubleheader and facing both the Stray Cats and River Sharks. The Stray Cats, who started the season undefeated, have been on a slide recently, while the River Sharks are fresh off their first win and looking to build on it. With teams eager to shape their playoff paths, it’s shaping up to be a crucial week in the SARHL.
Game 1: Tarantulas (4-2) vs. Stray Cats (5-2)
The first game of the night is a grudge match between the Tarantulas and Stray Cats, and it’s bound to be an intense showdown. The Cats, after two consecutive losses, need to reset and find the form that carried them to a perfect start. Last week’s close loss to the Tarantulas exposed some cracks, especially with the absence of two of their key scorers. This week, they’ll be hoping to have their full roster back, with Brian Van Vlymen and Micah Deary hopefully back in the mix to provide the offensive spark they were missing while we expect to see Glenn Domingo’s tires slashed.
The Tarantulas, meanwhile, have found new life, with Captain Penn leading the charge and Collin Iacarella and Zack Merullo delivering when it matters. Last week’s win over the Cats proved they can handle the top teams, especially when Dixon takes the night off. With solid play from Travis and a bit of luck on their side, the Tarantulas will be gunning to show that last week’s win was no fluke and to close the gap in the standings. Kaleb Morley is rumored to be back in action after a few weeks in anger management. If he can keep his cool, the Tarantulas have a great shot at overtaking the Cats in the standings.
Key to Watch:
Will the Cats reclaim their early-season form and halt the Tarantulas’ momentum, or will the Tarantulas once again use their depth and grit to upset the league leaders? Watch for an intense battle between the Cats’ returning firepower and the Tarantulas’ steadily improving lineup.
Game 2: Tarantulas (4-2) vs. River Sharks (1-6)
After their opening game against the Stray Cats, the Tarantulas will go right back into the action, hosting the River Sharks in the night’s second matchup. The Sharks, despite their challenging season, managed to take down the Cats last week, showing that they’re capable of surprising results. With Junior and Ray Ortega leading the way, the Sharks may have found the chemistry they need… depending on the attendance of team captain Jaiden Hernandez, of course.
For the Tarantulas, fatigue might be a factor, and if they come off a grueling game against the Cats, the Sharks could use that to their advantage. The River Sharks will be looking to build on their first win, and goalie Felipe Rodriguez, fresh off that victory, will need to be at his best. The Sharks will aim to keep the pace fast and aggressive to test the Tarantulas’ endurance.
Key to Watch:
Will the Tarantulas have enough energy left in the tank to fend off a determined River Sharks team? And can the Sharks replicate last week’s winning formula even if their captain returns? Keep an eye on the Sharks’ bench chemistry and the Tarantulas’ stamina as the night unfolds.
Overall:
With the standings tightening up, Week 6 is a pivotal week for all three teams. The Stray Cats are looking to shake off their skid, the Tarantulas want to continue climbing, and the River Sharks hope to turn last week’s win into a late-season rally. This week could shake up the standings and define each team’s playoff path. Let the action begin!

Week 5 Recap

Game 1 Recap
The first game of the night saw the Stray Cats’ perfect season come to a screeching halt as the River Sharks, missing their captain Jaiden Hernandez, finally snagged their first win, topping the Cats 5-3. With a calm, Jaiden-free bench and zero pressure, the Sharks found a groove that they’re likely hoping will stick around—along with Jaiden’s mysterious absence.
Final Score: Stray Cats 3, River Sharks 5
Goal Scorers:
The Stray Cats saw goals from Augie, Jacob Hernandez, and part-timer Glenn Domingo, who managed a slick rebound goal. The Sharks, meanwhile, were led by Junior and Ray Ortega, each netting two goals, with Ryan Lewis adding another to round out the scoring.
Game Notes:
- Stray Cats’ Missing Faces: Without Brian Van Vlymen, who was busy judging a one-legged figure skating competition, and Micah Deary, reportedly lost in the musical stylings of polka hits from the 2010s (including “Accordion Dreams” and “Polka O’Clock”), the Cats were a little short on firepower.
- Serenity Now: The Sharks, who took the ice without their captain, found new peace on the bench, complete with a focused, composed atmosphere. Rumor has it, some players are already scheming ways to keep Jaiden “unavailable” for the remainder of the season.
- Close Battle Until the End: The game was tight until the Sharks pulled away in the third, securing their first win of the season. The goal of the night came from Glenn Domingo, who buried a rebound off a Mallery shot that somehow found the post from what seemed like the next zip code. Sharks goalie Felipe Rodriguez would probably prefer we forget that shot even happened.
Overall:
While the Cats’ undefeated streak is no more, the Sharks finally have a reason to celebrate—at least until Jaiden’s inevitable return. With this confidence boost, it’ll be interesting to see if the Sharks can string together more wins, or if this was just a brief glimmer in an otherwise challenging season.
Game 2 Recap
Following their first loss of the season, the Stray Cats faced the Tarantulas in a second matchup that proved equally challenging. Despite a strong effort, the Cats struggled to find enough firepower without some of their big guns, ultimately dropping the game 6-4 to the Tarantulas.
Final Score: Stray Cats 4, Tarantulas 6
Goal Scorers:
The Cats’ offense was led by Jacob Hernandez and Mike Mallery, each scoring twice. For the Tarantulas, Collin Iacarella and Captain Penn each netted two goals, with Travis Laveault and Zack Merullo adding one apiece.
Game Notes:
- Dixon’s Out: With Dixon out—courtesy of a “call from his mother” claiming he’s sick—the Tarantulas showed off a streamlined lineup that proved effective. Dixon’s absence seems to have been a case of “addition by subtraction,” and the team capitalized on a newfound synergy to overcome the Cats.
- Travis’s Triumphant Return: Back in action, Travis Laveault made a notable impact, finding the back of the net off a slick pass from Penn. Always ready with commentary, Tarantulas’ Rick Odom remarked that even he could have scored it. But when Odom had his own chance, facing what was essentially an open net, he missed. “There was wind blowing and sun in my eyes,” he sheepishly explained.
- Cats’ Offense Woes Continue: When half of your team’s goals come from Mallery, you know you’re in trouble. The Cats are now 1-2 with Glenn Domingo on the bench making him a shoe-in for this week’s goat award (not to be confused with GOAT).
Overall:
The Stray Cats have now dropped two straight, a stark contrast from their early undefeated dominance. The Tarantulas, on the other hand, showed resilience and teamwork in their win, proving they can hang with any team when they’re in sync. Week 5 has brought a shake-up to the standings, and with every game, this season gets a little more unpredictable.
