Game Previews

09/15/19 – Week 6 Preview

After a week off for some travel to McAllen, the SARHL concludes its regular season tonight.

Game 1 will pit Los Chupacabras against the Unicorns. There’s no pressure on the Chupas, and that relaxed attitude may provide the spark they need to head into the playoffs in the right direction.

The Chupas picked up a big win a couple of weeks ago and had a late rally fall short two weeks ago. If they can continue that style of play, they may just pull off the upset.

The Unicorns are overdo for a bad game, and this could be the perfect storm right before the playoffs.

Players to Watch

Los Chupacabras need Evan Cumpston to step up big for this game. Usually a feared scorer, Cumpston has been largely absent from the scoresheet this season. This would be the perfect time for him to turn it back on.

Robert Robles of the Unicorns is still trying to show everyone he isn’t washed up. Look for him to step it up if only to raise his ego ever so slightly.

The Demogorgons and the Krakens tie up in the second game of the week. Both teams are under-performing and could each use a couple of points tonight.

The Demogorgons barely hung on to a win last week as they allowed a couple of goals towards the end of the game which made the score too close for comfort. After a handful of strong wins, the Gorgons haven’t been playing like they did during those victories. They’ll need to look back and harness those games if they want to pick up the win tonight.

The Krakens continue to struggle, but coming up against another struggling team might be just the kick they could use. A win tonight could provide a big spark heading into the playoffs.

Players to Watch

James Nealy of the Demogorgons was the catalyst leading to the Chupas almost tying the game up last week. His late penalty started the Chupas comeback. Look for Nealy to turn it around and play a cleaner game.

The Krakens are relying on David Hastings to step up and be the power player he can be. His defense-first mentality is admirable but doesn’t translate at this rink. Look for him to spark his team to victory tonight.
