Week 2 is upon us, and it’s going to be a barn burner. Litterally. With temperatures reaching over 100°F (that’s 38°C for our non-US players), games are starting at 8pm. Be ready for some stops as the goalies are going to need some relief from the heat. It could be a long night…

8:00PM VS

Both winning teams from week 1 will face off in week 2 for meaningless early supremacy.

The Unicorns had their way with the Demogorgons as they ran out to a 6-0 lead after the first half. The second half didn’t work out nearly as well for the Unicorns who coughed up 4 goals in a much tighter half. Whether this is more telling of the Unicorns or the Demogorgons, we’ll have to wait and see.

The Kraken’s put together a solid effort against Los Chupacabras, and they may have to rely on Wayne Garrick to bring his crack-induced trance from last week if they want to earn another “W”.

Players to Watch

Unircorns elder, David Foss, had several key defensive plays last week. If he brings the same game this week, the Unicorns may be sitting atop the rankings by themselves.

You wouldn’t be wrong if we thought Garrick would be a difference maker this week, but we’re looking at Corey Calandra. Having gotten a taste of that goal-scoring fever, he will be on the hunt for number two of the season… and his career.

9:00PM VS

The late game hosts two teams that struggled a bit last week, but they are both trending in different directions.

Los Chupacabras held the lead heading into the second half against the Krakens, but they fell hard in the second. If “game-time decision” Evan Cumpston shows up, they might have a solid chance at victory number 1 this week.

The Demogorgons got trounced last week. In all fairness, though, one-third of the team skated either once or never at our rink. It takes time to get used to, and it showed in the second half of the game. After going down 6-0 in the first, the Demogorgons made the second half exciting by keeping the period close.

Players to Watch

Los Chupacabras defenseman John Smith arrived late, and he was the only bright spot for the team in the second. Whether it was because he was rested, we’ll never know. But if he can bring that kind of leadership and dedication to the team for a whole game, the sky’s the limit.

Demogorgons goalie Felipe Rodriguez had an uncharacteristically bad game. He is going to look to bounce back and steal one for the Orgons.
