Week 2 Results and Season Standings

Week 2 – Game 1: Devils shutout Stars with a 4-0 win.

The Devils got out to an early lead with goals from new league member Colin Iacarella and Captain Burdge. After a quick flurry in the first period making it 4-0, the score would remain that way for the rest of the game as both goalies, Taylor and Ricky, played lights out stopping all shots sent their way in the 2nd and 3rd. The Stars struggled offensively falling to 0-2 on the season as the played without their stars, Van Vlyman and Lima. The Devils moved to 2-0 on the season and have appeared dominant so far, rising to “team to beat” status. Their week 3 matchup against the Bruins will test their offensive power and see who gets to claim the title of “Team to beat this season”.

Week 2 – Game 2: Bruins hold off the Canadians in a 6-4 match.

The second game of the night featuring the Bruins and Canadians was the game of the night. Teams were tied up after the first period at 1 a piece before the offense of Minerd, Johnson and Hurley got going from the Bruins and extended the lead to 3 goals entering the third. The Canadians made a last period push with goals from Vargas and Hernandez but came up just short. A potential goal of the season was scored by Hernandez, subbing for the Canadians roster, as he was able to take the drop the goalie, navigate around the net while scooping the puck for a flawless Michigan style goal that had the defender frozen like a deer in headlights. The Bruins moved to 2-0 on the season and will face the also 2-0 Devils next week in the Game of the Night set to take place at 9pm. The Canadians fell to 0-2 and will face the 0-2 Stars next week.

Player Profiles

This season saw a record number of new participants join the league, with a quarter of players signed up reporting that this would be their first season playing in the SARHL. This season features a total of 32ish skaters and in this week’s spotlight are the 3 goalies! With 3 goalies and 4 teams we unfortunately cannot assign a goalie to a single team, so we have designed the schedule to rotate the goalies through double headers/single weeks that will have them making an appearances for each team. You think it’s hot and tiring playing one game? Imagine playing two with goalie gear! Make sure to give these gentleman your thanks and appreciation as they help keep our league running smoothly.

Meet Taylor, Ricky and Felipe. All three are long time veterans of the SARHL and active Iguana team members for travel hockey.
