Week 3 Preview

Armadillos Pull Double Duty

It’s Week 3, and that means it’s Remember the Armadillos’ turn to embrace the sweat-soaked misery of the SARHL doubleheader. With two games on the docket – first against the Disoriented Dolphins, then against the Mariguanas – the Armadillos will be battling fatigue, depth issues, and possibly their own will to live.

Whether they rise to the occasion or collapse like Jr after the first remains to be seen. Let’s get into it.

Game 1 – Remember the Armadillos vs. Disoriented Dolphins

The Armadillos enter their first match of the night looking to bounce back from a tight loss to the Mariguanas, a game where Andrew Minerd scored all three goals but couldn’t will the rest of the team out of their group nap. He regrets bringing blanky’s and warm milk for his teammates – even stranger that they accepted them. If Penn and Micah bother to show up this week, the Armadillos’ odds go up dramatically. If not, expect more of Minerd trying to do everything himself while the rest of the team laughs in private.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, are coming off a “thrilling” 7-6 win over the Mariguanas, and Zack Merullo may not have yet landed from his Bobby Orr game-winner. With Junior dialing up the aggression, Collin K making waves, and Ron/Ryan/David all chipping in, this team is quietly (and sometimes loudly) becoming a real problem.

This one could be a scoring fest if the Armadillos run out of gas early, or it could turn into one of those games where both teams try to lose more slowly than the other.

Key to Watch:

  • Can the Armadillos keep up with the speed of the Dolphins, or will they be saving legs for Game 2?
  • Will Zack try to top his flying finish from last week?
  • Have the Armadillos learned their lesson and rolled out the red carpet for Penn and Micah?

Prediction: If the Armadillos show up at full strength, this could be close. If they don’t, expect the Dolphins to skate them into the ground by the second period.

Game 2 – Remember the Armadillos vs. Mariguanas

The back half of a doubleheader is where dreams go to die, especially when you’re facing a team that already (barely) beat you once. The Mariguanas are coming off a split series, but they’ve shown flashes of being a team that could catch fire fast—especially if Reuben stays hot and Collin Iacarella doesn’t completely run out of gas carrying the team again.

Jaiden’s lineup experiments are unpredictable, but if he can get consistent contributions from Ray, Ashton, or even Dixon, this game could go sideways for a tired Armadillos squad real fast.

On the flip side, if the Armadillos manage to pace themselves and avoid going “full Dignowity”, they could grind out another win and establish themselves as contenders heading into the midseason stretch.

Key to Watch:

  • Can the Armadillos survive Game 1 and still have legs for Game 2?
  • Will the Mariguanas finally find scoring depth beyond Reuben and Collin?
  • Is Jaiden due for a wild goalie-related stunt? (Yes. Always yes.)

Prediction: The Mariguanas will have the rest advantage, and unless the Armadillos conserve energy or get major help from their depth, this could be a tough nightcap for Minerd and crew.

Final Thoughts:

  • The Armadillos have the hardest job this week—and that’s just keeping their legs moving by Game 2.
  • The Dolphins are heating up at the right time and looking dangerous.
  • The Mariguanas need a statement win after week 2’s stinker, and they might just get it if the Armadillos fade late.

Expect chaos, dehydration, and at least one passive-aggressive line change. Week 3 is here. Let’s get weird.
